NavAid is a free, open-source CVFR flight-route planner that runs entirely in your web browser. There is no NavAid server and no NavAid account — the app is static files served from GitHub Pages.
None of your flying is sent to us. NavAid has no backend and no account. Your routes, waypoints, notes and settings are stored only in your browser's local storage on your own device unless you explicitly enable optional Google Drive sync or Follow Me, as described below.
The public web site at navaid.supino.org loads Google Analytics
(GA4), which records anonymous usage — pages viewed, approximate region, browser
and device type — so we can see which parts of the app are actually used. It sets Google's
own cookies in your browser.
It also counts three buttons: opening a flight plan, a cross-country form or a parking request in your mail app. Only that the button was pressed is recorded — not who pressed it, not what was in the message, and not whether you then sent it. Your mail app sends the email; NavAid never sees it.
It is not loaded in the Android or iOS app, on staging, PR-preview or branch builds, or when running the app locally. No route, waypoint, note, position, flight plan or setting is ever sent to it — those never leave your device except through the optional features described below. Browser tracking protection, an ad blocker, or Google's own opt-out add-on will stop it, and the app works exactly the same without it.
If — and only if — you choose to connect Google Drive, NavAid uses the
drive.appdata permission to store navaid-routes.json,
containing your saved routes, in a hidden application-specific folder in
your own Google Drive. If you separately enable “Sync settings too”,
portable preferences are stored in navaid-settings.json. This includes
the flight-plan pilot, aircraft, licence and contact profile so it is available on
your other connected devices. Current versions exclude AI API keys and the
flight-plan filing destination. If an older version copied an AI key into the
settings file, the next successful settings sync removes that legacy copy.
NavAid's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
If — and only if — you start Follow Me, NavAid encrypts your current position, altitude, speed, track and aircraft label in your browser and sends the encrypted bytes through a public third-party MQTT test relay. The relay can see ordinary connection metadata such as your IP address, connection times and a random topic, but it does not receive the encryption key or readable flight data.
Map tiles and aeronautical charts are loaded directly from their providers (flight-maps.com, Esri, OpenStreetMap). Those providers may receive standard web requests (e.g. your IP address) as part of serving tiles, governed by their own privacy policies. NavAid is not affiliated with them.
NavAid is a general-audience aviation tool and is not directed at children.
